At n. 12 Via Porta Dipinta, under the Rocca Civica, stands the entrance door to Palazzo Moroni, one of the most authentic expressions of baroque art in Bergamo. The palace, with its rather sober façade, was desired and built in the seventeenth century by Francesco Moroni who entrusted the decoration of the inside to Gian Giacomo Barbelli. From the courtyard, where the statue of Neptune, a work by Lorenzo Redi, stands supreme in its niche, an impressive flight of stairs leads to the floor where the biggest rooms are. Their furniture and works of art bear witness to the love of collecting items enjoyed by the Moroni family over generations of descendants. In fact, four centuries of lombard painting are represented here in masterpieces by artists such as Giovan Battista Moroni, Bernardino Luini, Fra Galgario, Evaristo Baschenis, to name but a few. Another place of interest is the immense Palace garden with its medieval tower: a pleasant surprise in the heart of Città Alta where you can relax for a moment, either after a visit to the palace or separately.
